Brown-Forman's Woodford Reserve has unveiled an experimental Bourbon aged in barrels made from staves exposed to the elements for five to seven years.
Super Seasoned Oak is the 22nd release in the brand's experimental Master's Collection, which has featured releases aged in various casks, such as Madeira barrels in 2024 and in Pinot Noir wine casks in 2023.
Crafted by Woodford Reserve master distiller Elizabeth McCall, the 2026 release emphasises the impact of maturation in barrels made from staves subjected to extended seasoning.
With Super Seasoned Oak, we showcase how extended outdoor wood exposure and precise barrel craftsmanship can elevate the spirit, delivering an intensely rich, deeply structured profile, McCall said.
Traditional Bourbon barrels are made from white oak that is typically seasoned in the open air for several months to a year.
In contrast, the Super Seasoned Oak expression uses specialised barrels made from staves exposed to the elements for as long as seven years.
