The Scottish Highland distillery has bottled its flagship AD/ single malt in recyclable plastic for the Norwegian market.
Ardnamurchan single malt in PET plastic may be a world-first.
The Ardnamurchan AD/ is now available to purchase from Norway's state alcohol monopoly Vinmonopolet in a 500ml PET format for Kr399 (US$43).
Inside the plastic bottle is the same combination of peated and unpeated Highland single malt, aged in Bourbon and Sherry casks, available in traditional glass bottles in other markets.
In Norway, recycling rates are incredibly high, around 90-98%, Ardnamurchan's international sales manager Graeme Mackay told The Spirits Business.
A spokesperson for Vinomopolet said the Ardnamurchan AD/ 500ml PET bottling is part of Vinmonopolet's ongoing sustainability strategy, and is the first single malt Scotch whisky launched by Vinmonopolet in a PET bottle with deposit.
In addition to being lighter than traditional glass bottles, PET bottles require less energy to manufacture and are less prone to breakage during transit.
