美国总统特朗普在最后一刻谈判破裂后，对加拿大烈酒加征50%关税，加拿大下月将采取「对等美元」报复性措施。美国烈酒已被加拿大商店下架18个月，此次关税原定8月19日生效但因两国磋商推迟至少三天，最终谈判破裂，关税于8月22日（周六）正式生效。
US president Donald Trump has slapped a 50% tariff on Canadian spirits after last-ditch negotiations broke down, with retaliatory “dollar-for-dollar” measures to follow next month.
American spirits have been axed from the shelves of Canadian stores for 18 months In July, president Trump threatened the tariff and said it would “level the playing field for crucial American exports – cars, alcohol, and dairy”.
It was made in response to Canada’s almost nationwide removal of US-made alcohol from government-controlled liquor board shelves since March 2025 in response to Trump’s initial tariffs.
The new 50% tariff was due to come into effect on 19 August 2026 but was postponed by at least three days due to talks between the two nations.
However, the negotiations collapsed at the last minute with Trump forging ahead with the 50% tariff, which came into effect on Saturday 22 August.
