According to a new report, the alcohol-attributable mortality rate has fallen by more than a quarter since 2010.
The data comes from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation's (IHME) Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, with analysis conducted by the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD).
IARD also found that the rate of ill health and premature death linked to alcohol fell by around 23%, after accounting for differences in population age. High alcohol use exposure decreased by approximately 10% over the same period.
With these three indicators moving in the same direction, IARD believes there has been a broad reduction in alcohol-related harm since the 2010 baseline adopted by United Nations Member States.
