A bottle of The Macallan 1926 will lead the Scotch brand’s auction next month, the first to be hosted at the Speyside distillery.
Presented in collaboration with Sotheby’s, the auction will take place on 9 October at The Macallan Estate.
It marks 100 years since The Macallan 1926 was distilled and the whisky is expected to fetch between £1.7 million and £2.2 million (US$2.2m-US$2.9m) when it goes under the hammer next month.
The whisky became the highest-selling spirit or wine at auction when it sold for £2,187,500 (US$2,714,250) during a Sotheby’s auction in London in November 2023. The record-breaking version was the Macallan 1926 Adami, named after the artist who designed the bottle, Valerio Adamo.
Bottled in 1986 at 60 years old, only 40 bottles of the 1926 were produced. It was The Macallan’s oldest whisky at the time of its introduction, but has since been topped by an 84-year-old single malt released in 2024 as part of the distillery’s Time: Space Collection.
