National Wine & Spirits (NWS) is challenging a proposed US$6.57 million payment to US distributor Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) from the sale of its Kentucky business.

Louisville-based KEG 1 River City (K1RC), a distributor of beer, wine, and spirits, and a subsidiary of K1 Management Services, signed a letter of intent to acquire RNDC’s Kentucky business in August.

The sale completed on 30 October, with the business now operating at KEG 1 Kentucky.

The move is part of RNDC’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, which the company filed for in July.

“Closing this transaction is an important milestone for KEG 1 and reflects the tremendous effort and collaboration of everyone involved,” said Curt McCamon, president and chief operating officer of K1 Management Services. “Our immediate priority is business continuity. We are operating in the normal course of business as KEG 1 Kentucky and remain focused on supporting our employees, strengthening our supplier partnerships and providing uninterrupted and dependable service to customers throughout the state.”

Prior to the completion of the acquisition, NWS filed a complaint against RNDC on 29 October in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas.
