Alcohol distributor Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits has agreed to pay US$12.5 million to resolve a long-running investigation into alleged bribery and false invoicing practices.
Southern Glazer’s said it cooperated fully with investigators Southern Glazer’s had been under investigation regarding former employees who apparently circumvented compliance controls and policies, including submitting fraudulent documentation through third parties, several years ago.
Southern Glazer’s has now reached a resolution with the US Department of Justice, and the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).
The American distribution company said it cooperated fully with investigators and accepted responsibility for the conduct and lapses acknowledged in the NPA (non-prosecution agreement).
The company’s NPA with federal prosecutors noted Southern Glazer’s has made ‘significant investments’ to strengthen its compliance programme over the past few years.
