Americans’ alcohol consumption has remained at a ‘record low’ of 54%, while longer-term trends show drinkers are moving towards spirits, according to a Gallup survey
Beer slightly leads American alcohol consumption, but spirits are hot on its tail Last August, a Gallup poll revealed the same percentage figure from Americans who said they consume alcohol – the lowest level in nearly 90 years
The latest Gallup survey was based on interviews with US adults aged 18 and over between 1 and 19 July 2026
It noted that self-reported drinking fell from 62% in 2023 to 58% in 2024 and 54% last year
In addition, the percentage of Americans who said they consume ‘too much’ alcohol has fallen to 13%
