Pernod Ricard’s Canadian subsidiary, Corby Spirit and Wine, has sold Lamb’s rum to La Martiniquaise-Bardinet and Quebec-based alcohol firm Phildan for CA$39.2 million (US$28m).
Corby has sold the brand, inventories and intellectual property in a joint deal to Maison des Futailles, a subsidiary of Canadian business Phildan, and Glen Turner Company, a division of COFEPP. Family-owned COFEPP is the French holding company behind spirits firms La Martiniquaise-Bardinet and Marie Brizard Wine & Spirits. Under the agreement, Phildan has purchased the North American rights to the brand. Meanwhile, COFEPP is the owner of the brand in the rest of the world. "The sale of Lamb's is a disciplined portfolio management decision that supports Corby's long-term strategy," said Florence Tresarrieu, president and CEO of Corby. "It allows us to further focus our resources on higher-priority categories, strengthen our financial position, and continue investing behind the brands and innovations that will drive Corby's next chapter of growth." Corby said the deal would ‘sharpen’ its focus on ‘priority growth’ areas including ready-to-drink (RTD) and premium spirits. The divestment will also free up capital and resources for ‘higher-return opportunities’, and support ‘long-term growth’ and profitability. In May, Corby posted 22% organic revenue growth in the third quarter of its fiscal year 2026, driven by the double-digit growth of its RTDs. In recent years, Corby added Nude and Cottage Springs to its RTD portfolio, as the category has become a focal point of its strategy. Strong UK and Canada presence for Lamb's La Martiniquaise-Bardinet international director Christophe Pichambert said Lamb’s is a “well-established brand” in the UK. He believes the acquisition will complement the group’s portfolio, which includes Saint James Rum, Speyside whisky Glen Moray, English gin Warner’s and Bardinet brandy. “We are excited about the opportunities ahead and committed to supporting the brand's continued success, and building the next chapter of its long history," Pichambert added. Phildan, formerly known as Dandurand Group, is said to be a leading Canadian family-owned business dedicated to building alcoholic and non-alcoholic brands in its home market. The company spans brand representation, manufacturing and bottling, marketing and e-commerce. Hughes Gauthier, president of Phildan, called Lamb’s “one of Canada’s most recognised rum brands”. He continued: “This acquisition strengthens our brand portfolio, expands our presence in the spirits category and reflects our long-term commitment to investing in brands with strong consumer recognition and significant growth potential." The deal, which was approved by Corby’s board of directors, is subject to customary adjustments. Corby and its associated companies will support production and distribution of Lamb’s for the buyers in a transitional period after the closing of the deal. Pernod Ricard took on UK distribution of Lamb's Rum in 2016 from Corby. The French firm owns a majority stake in the Canadian company. La Martiniquaise-Bardinet has fully acquired or snapped up majority stakes in several brands in the past 12 months, including alcohol-free cocktail Sir James 101, Spanish liqueur Plato o Plomo, and Warner's. Diageo sold its Cacique rum brand to La Martiniquaise-Bardinet in January 2025.Comments
